Butch Holcombe

Butch HolcombeButch Holcombe began metal detecting with a homemade (kit) metal detector in 1968, and soon discovering Civil War relic hunting in his history rich hometown of Marietta, Georgia.

With a serious passion for metal detecting, history, and writing, he soon began freelancing for various publications before founding American Digger Magazine in 2004.

He also is founder and owner of Greybird Publishers, publishing and ghost writing related books (many under contract), including “Relics of the Coastal Empire: The Civil War Years”, “Plates, Belts and Swords of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War”

He has also published two of his own, Never Mace A skunk and Never Mace a Skunk II. Others are in the works.

He also is co founder of American Digger’s Relic Roundup, now in its 5th continuous year. and also owner of Greybird Relics.
